What Does the Word Love Mean?

We love fashion, a song, a restaurant, a movie, or a place. We use the word love to be in a committed relationship, express emotions, and or tell someone we love them.

There is love, true love, and unconditional love. What is the difference?

Love is an intense feeling of deep affection and seeking approval.

True love is a solid and lasting affection and not asking others for approval.

Unconditional love is absolute and unselfish.

How often do we tell the important ones in our lives that we love them? Do they know we love them, or do they assume?

My husband shares the following personal story of love.

“I come from one of the kindest and loving families, which I am proud of. My family did not speak the word love often, but their actions showed love by hugging and family time. I knew they loved me with certainty.

My sister passed away at the age of 27 four months after giving birth to my nephew. She had a heart condition which was not detected and not capable of giving birth successfully.

Shortly after the doctors certified her death, I went into her room tears streaming down my face saying the words; I Love You. I love you over and over again.

Later at home, it dawned on me, that was the first time I told my sister I loved her and had not said those words to anyone dear and close to me.

From that day forward, I made a promise to say those words to everyone dear and close.”

With time, our hearts will be broken and we will be disappointed because humans are imperfect, but we heal.

Once we allow ourselves to be vulnerable, we open our hearts to joy, intimacy and saying the words, “I Love You.”

Thanks for sharing, and remember you become your authentic self once you open up. And loving yourself won’t allow others to take advantage or hurt you. Be you and love yourself more than you love others.
